How To Exercise In The Summer

Who wants to go out in the heat, get to the gym, workout and sweat, then step out in the heat again to get in a hot car that can’t wait for you to turn on the AC? Face it! It’s hot outside and exercising when it’s 90°F is not encouraging. However, you still need to maintain a good health, right? Here are some tips to survive the summer heat and exercise.

1) Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

Hydrating in the summer and when you’re exercising is very important. Simply put, when you sweat from the heat and exercise, your body is losing fluid. Hydrating helps replace the fluid you lost and cool off.

2) Choose Your Clothes Wisely!

Try to wear clothes that are breathable and allow you to move easily. It’s important to be comfortable and choosing breathable clothes can help you stay as cool as possible in the summer.

3) Take It Easy.

If your body is telling you to slow down, do it. Listen to your body and do what you need to do. If you feel like you’re unable to do your typically warm-up or sets of push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, etc., take a break. Your body can react negatively if you do more than you’re capable of.

4) Exercise When You Can.

Try to exercise only when you can. If it’s too hot to exercise in the morning, try to adjust or schedule your workouts in the evening instead. Continuing to workout even in the summer is important to stay healthy, but it’s also important to adjust to the weather.

Being healthy doesn’t have to be unbearable. Try to incorporate things you like and adjust whatever will make your workout better to enjoy the process and season. This is also a great time to go out and find other creative ways to stay active. Try activities you haven’t been involved in before. There are many things you could do such as biking, roller skating, swimming, playing volleyball or tennis, etc. Exercising isn’t always about building muscles and toned body. The idea is to be active and healthy. Choosing activities or workouts you like won’t only be a contributing factor to your healthy, it’s a contributing factor to your happiness and sense of productivity because you’re doing things that you want and are beneficial.

Question of the day: What’s one activity you love doing every summer?
